What is better then the Phillies making the playoffs? The Phillies making the playoffs and the Mets losing on the last day of the season and being eliminated from the playoffs. Well that happened AGAIN! The Miracless Mets blew two leads this September as they blew both the division AND wild card. My favorite part is they rewarded their general manager for making their team the laughing stock of baseball by giving him a four year extension. Way to reward for performance! What a disgrace! At least New York has the Yankees. Oh wait, they are out too!

What a fitting way to close Shea Stadium. The biggest losers in history blow their chances to go to the post season. Gotta love it! It's Time to Shea Goodbye!

Enjoy the golf course Mutts! The Phillies are heading to the World Series!

Phillies Magic Number Down to 1!

The Phillies win tonight gave the team 90 wins for only the 12th time in their history. It is the first time they have reached this mark since recording 97 wins in the magical year that was 1993.

The New York Mets could not pull out a win tonight as they lost to the Florida Marlins 6-1. The combination of the Phillies win and Mets loss gives the Phillies a magic number of 1. Hopefully the Phillies will clinch tomorrow afternoon and the N.L. East will be theirs for the second consecutive year. It would be the first time they won a division title in consecutive years since they won three in a row from 1976 to 1978. The only other time the Phillies played in the post season two times in a row was 1980 and 1981 when they won the World Series in '80 but lost to the Expos in a divisional series caused by the strike in '81.

Seriously, the pennant race continues to change day by day and as we get closer to the post season it seems as though the Phillies and Mets may both find their way to post season play. What does this mean? The Phillies could face the Los Angeles Dodgers who beat them in post season play in 1977 and 1978 but lost to them in 1983. The Mets would face the Chicago Cubs who would give them a run for their money. Or the opposite could happen where the Mets face the Dodgers and the Phillies the Cubs.

Either way I like the Phillies chances. It would sure be fun to face the loser Mets in the National League Championship series and teach them what a true beat down is all about. Oh, never mind, we did that last year!

Does it feel like 2007 all over again? While the Phillies beat the two teams in front of them handily in their last two series this winning 6 out of 7 games, the New York Mets have floundered again like a heartless gutless team filled with losers. Led by a weak bullpen and players that can't perform in the clutch, a 3 1/2 game lead has turned into a half game lead when Pedro Martinez could not keep the Washington Nationals in check last night.

While everything has gone wrong for the Mets, Philadelphia has turned on the bats and Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard have propelled the Phillies right back into the pennant race. Things look good for the Philadelphia Phaithful. For the Mets fans, there is always next year. Oh, I guess not, your team will be even older and have more holes then they do now.

By the way, if you are a Mets fan and would like to plan a fun outing for the offseason, try going to the unemployment line. There you can get pictures and autographs with Willie Randolph and Omar Minaya!

Mets ready to close the deal...

Well, here is the situation; the New York Mets have 17 games remaining and the Philadelphia Phillies have 15 remaining. The Mets have a three game lead.

Yes, I know, last year the Mets had a seven game lead and couldn't close the deal (just like the '64 Phillies). However, that was a one time gift to the little, championship starved city to the South. Philly, you will not get the same present this year.

What's more, you don't deserve it. With the bats the Phillies have and the pitching you have gotten this season, this race would have been over had the offense lived up to it's hype. Real Philly fans know this. As do the front runners Jimmy Rollins rightfully spoke of.

Here is a little math for those of you in Philly who actually understand such things (all six of you); with the Mets having 17 left, lets say they play mediocre ball (mediocrity, afterall is something Philly fans do understand) and just go 9-8. With the Phils needing to make up 3 games, they would need to go 12-3 just to tie. If the Mets play closer to their season long winning percentage and go 10-7 (not exactly unrealistic) then your little team needs to go 13-2 to force a tie.

Point is, just pack it in. Lets face it, even after last years gift you didn't do a thing! The Mets and Phillies had exactly the same number of post season wins last year....ZERO! 

Do what we all know you will; abandon the Phillies and jump on the Eagles band wagon since they are 1-0 and Sports Illustrated wrongly picked them to go to the Super Bowl (sorry...New York Giants once again).

Lets go Mets!

Phillies Give Away First Place

The Phillies were tired of being in first place and gave the lead to the Mets this week as they were swept by the L.A. Dodgers. A more pathetic series I can not remember. To the Mets credit they took two out of three games from a minor league team to take over the top spot in the division.

Don't get too excited rotten apples, this is just another blip in the radar. Soon you will be be back in third place where you belong with nothing to do but run your big mouths!

10 Games Above .500, 2 1/2 Game Lead

The Philadelphia Phillies have heated up and their bats are unstoppable. They are now 10 games over .500 and 2 1/2 games ahead in the NL East of the Marlins.

Meanwhile, the Mets flounder around .500. Tough luck!

Sorry to break it to you Phillies fans, but the New York Mets have tied the cheese steaks for the division lead!

The Mets appear to be hitting their stride; the pitching is coming around, (even Oliver Perez was sharp), Carlos Beltran is catching fire, and the Mets are starting to get healthy. Even Pedro Martinez will soon return!

Last September was a one time gift...which by the way, you guys did NOTHING with!

With April Ending, The Division is Clear for Phils

In the past few seasons, April has come back to haunt the Philadelphia Phillies. They have had the best record in the NL East from May on every year since 2005 but have been unable to overcome bad starts except for last year. This year is different. With four games left in April, the Phillies are 2 games above .500 and a game ahead of the hated New York Mets!

The Phillies have lost their lead off and number two hitter, one being an MVP, and still are playing better than the Mets in a month they usually struggle. Their pitching is near the top of the league while the bullpen leads the league in ERA.

This is the Phillies year. Sorry Mets fans, hey you could always go cheer for New York's major league team the Yankees!

There will be another one of these flying here after this season!
